LC-MS/MS (Thermo LTQ and Dionex U-3000)

The LC-MS/MS is routinely operated in the nanoLC mode to obtain sub femtomole sensitivity for detection of peptides in solution. In practice, we routinely identify proteins in gel bands that are present at the lower levels detectable by silver staining (∼1 ng). The instrument is also operated at higher flow rates for other applications such as H-D exchange. Due to its complexity, this instrument is generally operated by facility staff but some highly experienced users may have direct access.

MALDI-TOF/TOF (ABI-MDS SCIEX 4800) & LC-MALDI (LC Packings Ultimate and Probot)

The 4800 represents the latest generation of MALDI-TOF/TOF instruments and is capable of performing true MS/MS. It is considerably faster and more sensitive than the Voyager for peptide analysis. In addition, the MS/MS capabilities provide greater confidence for protein identification and are useful for a variety of purposes including post-translational modification studies and iTRAQ analysis.

Depending on anticipated needs, this instrument can be either operated by the facility on behalf of clients or can also be directly accessible to users. Users wishing to operate the instrument directly will receive initial training by facility staff and subsequent guidance as needed.

MALDI-TOF (ABI Voyager-DE-PRO)

The DE-PRO is robust, relatively simple to operate, and is highly useful for a variety of applications. All users access and operate this instrument directly. To learn more about the instrument and how to join the User Group and schedule instrument time, please go to the Voyager DE-PRO page.
