Instruments

Thermo Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid Mass Spectrometer with a Dionex U-3000 Rapid Separation nano LC system

This instrument was installed in October 2019 and is interfaced with a tandem Dionex nano RSLC system. The Eclipse combines quadrupole, ion trap and Orbitrap mass analyzers and is designed for a broad range of high-resolution, qualitative and quantitative applications. An application specific to the Eclipse and other Tribrid mass spectrometers is the ability to measure reporter ion intensities at the MS3 level in isobaric labeling proteomics studies. Compared to traditional MS2-level quantitation, MS3-level measurement results in significantly increased accuracy of protein quantitation, which is particularly helpful in large-scale proteome-wide quantitative studies. The instrument typically is operated in the nanoLC-mode by facility staff.

Thermo Q Exactive HF mass spectrometer with a Dionex U-3000 Rapid Separation nano LC system

This instrument was installed in December 2014 and is interfaced with a tandem Dionex nano RSLC system. The mass spectrometer uses a quadruple for precursor ion selection with HCD fragmentation and high-resolution, Orbitrap detection. Multiplex scanning (MSX) further increases duty cycle for targeted MS/MS. This instrument has a broad range of qualitative and quantitative applications and is operated by Facility staff.

ABI-MDS SCIEX 4800 MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer

The 4800 can be used to perform both MS and MS/MS experiments on a wide variety of compounds including proteins, peptides, polymers, and organic compounds. This instrument can be either operated by the facility on behalf of clients or by users themselves. Investigators wishing to operate the instrument directly will receive initial training by facility staff and subsequent guidance as needed. Frequent users are advised to join our 4800 User's Group for discounted pricing.

HPLCs

The Facility maintains various HPLC systems including an Agilent system that is operated either by Facility staff on behalf of clients or directly by users for separation of proteins, peptides, glycans, nucleotides and other compounds of interest.
